Date

April 11, 2021

Summary

YLD Topic: Book of the Bible

Key Scripture: “God has breathed life into all Scripture. It is useful for teaching us what is true. It is useful for correcting our mistakes. It is useful for making our lives whole again. It is useful for training us to do what is right.” (2 Tim 3:16, NlrV)

We all have our emergency list and it reassures us that we can reach out for help if we need it. The Bible is filled with stories and lessons, things that can keep us safe from sin.

Bible is God’s instruction book for us

  • The Bible, God’s Holy Word, is God’s instruction book
  • It tells us who we are, who God is, what God has done for us and how we respond to God

God’s Word is active

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. (Hebrews 4:12-13)

Four main areas:

  1. The Word of God speaks to us
  2. God’s Word is active
  3. God’s Word is sharp
  4. God’s Word judges the thoughts and attitudes of our heart

The author of Hebrews describes the Bible as a sword. It can cut us deep, showing us what is wrong with our lives so we can get it fixed.

  • It can also defend us and save us from sin
  • It is a weapon to fight temptation, and it is an instruction book for following God
  • Not only that, Bible is God’s love story to us
