YLD (05/03) – Wait upon the Lord

Date

May 3, 2020

Summary

YLD message summary on May 3:

Wait upon the Lord

  • Thanks for the technology, our demands can be fulfilled in a short period
  • Because of the convenience, we seem to have less patience and endurance

In God’s plan, there’s a time for everything.

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

  • a time to be born and a time to die,
  • a time to plant and a time to uproot,
  • a time to kill and a time to heal,
  • a time to tear down and a time to build,
  • a time to weep and a time to laugh,
  • a time to mourn and a time to dance (Ecclesiastes 3:1-4)

So why is it so hard to wait?

The problem is in human nature. We want to enjoy the pleasure right now, instead of waiting. We tend to seek pleasure and avoid pain.

Why is it important to wait for God’s timing?

  • God has a plan for everything – it’s a time for everything
    • He has made everything beautiful in its time – Ecclesiastes 3:11
    • God’s plan cannot be rushed
  • Waiting trains your endurance and patience
    • Waiting is not easy.  For those we wait upon the Lord, we become more patience. Abraham and Sarah waited 25 years to have Isaac
    • For a runner, we need to keep practising in order to build the running endurance. Likewise, time after time, we learn to put our trust in the Lord and build up our endurance
    • It wasn’t until Abraham was an old man that he finally learned he could trust God with everything in his life – he followed God’s command even offered his son, Isaac as a living sacrifice
  • Receive blessings from the Lord
    • v13 When God promised Abraham, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” v15 And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.
    • Following God’s plan help us avoid conflicts and receive blessings from the Lord
